CNN IBN declares K V Reddy\'s Mayabazaar as greatest Indian film ever

K V Reddy's Mayabazar (1957) is favourite film for all Andhraites worldwide. And now it has emerged as the greatest Indian film ever. In an online poll conducted by IBNLive, a website belonging to CNN-IBN, netizens chose Mayabazar over other great Indian classics. It topped the poll. The poll was held 'to find out India's greatest film till date', on the occasion of 100 Years of Indian Cinema. 

Starring NT Ramarao, Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, SV Rangarao, Savithri and Gummadi in principle roles, Mayabazar is a mythological classic revolves around a tiny part of Mahabarata. The film was directed by K V Reddy and filmed by great British Cinematographer Marcus Bartley, his trick photography in the film is considered as best 'special effects'. 

The film was first released on March 27th in 1957 and a digitally remastered colour version was released in 2010. The color version also ran to packed houses. The film was produced by B Nagi Reddy and Chakrapani on their Vijaya banner. Ghantashala composed the music and the songs are still being played on Radio FM Stations. 

The film was also shot and released in Tamil . ANR's role of Abhimanyudu was played by Gemini Ganeshan in Tamil. NTR played Lord Krishna in both the versions. S. V. Ranga Rao played the role of Ghatotkacha, and Savitri did the role of Sasirekha.
