Less well known than Bhadrachala Ramadasa, Shri Etla Ramadasa was a stone cutter from Andhra Pradesh. The story goes that when he split a solid, spherical rock into two, a frog jumped out from it! This made him spontaneously compose a song describing the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu....Matsya (Fish), Kurma (Tortoise), Varaha (Boar), Narasimha (Half man - half lion) and so on. Dr.Balamuralikrishna sir set the lyrics to a typical, earthy, Andhra folk style tune that we can easily identify with as the composer's authentic voice. |
