The elderly may also have a greater risk of developing anaemia because of poor diet and other medical conditions. There are many types of anaemia. All are very different in their causes and treatments. Iron-deficiency anaemia, the most common type, is easily treated with dietary changes and iron supplements. However, some types of anaemia may present lifelong health problems.   What causes anaemia?   There are more than 400 types of anaemia, which are divided into three groupings:   Anaemia caused by blood loss Anaemia caused by decreased or faulty red blood cell production Anaemia caused by excessive destruction of red blood cells Red blood cells can be lost through bleeding, which can occur slowly over a long period of time, and can often go undetected. Conditions associated with these causes of anaemia include the following:   Sickle cell anaemia Thalassaemia Iron deficiency anaemia Vitamin deficiency Bone marrow and stem cell problems Other health conditions Iron deficiency anaemia occurs because of a lack of the mineral iron in the body.  Bone marrow, found in the centre of the long bones in the body, needs iron to make haemoglobin, the part of the red blood cell that transports oxygen to the body's organs. Emraan has once again proven his worth by giving one of his best performances while Vidya who is trying comedy for the first time gives it her best shot and has the audiences in splits. Infact, most of the comic sequences in the film involve Vidya. The other main supporting actors Namit Das and Rajesh have done commendably well as Emraan’s partners-in-crime.   Negative points : Rajkumar Gupta moves away from his comfort zone and tries his hand with a different genre, i.e. comedy for the first time and his inexperience with this genre is quite visible in his direction. While the story kicks starts with an interesting plot, it gets confusing over time.Some of the sequences in the film are too vulgar to be funny and the sequence in which Namit Das talks to his girlfriend on the phone is crude. The comic scenes and dialogues that were showcased in the promos are the only comic scenes in the film while the audiences keep waiting for more of such sequences to laugh at.The movie doesn’t reach the viewers’ expectations and the climax is quite disappointing. . Dhari Devi\'s Wrath: The Cause of Kedarnath Destruction in Uttarkand

Story behind destruction:  On June 15th, 2013, the ancient deity of Dhari Devi was removed from her temple to be shifted to another location to facilitate the construction of a dam, which locals were opposing ever since the conception of the project with the belief that the moving of the Dhari Devi would somehow agitate Kali. Exactly on the next day a massive cloudburst and flash flood started in Uttarakhand, which devastated Kedarnath, washing the city completely away. This may sound like a story from a comic book, but it is not so – its reality that most people today like to ignore and push aside as superstition. The fury of the goddess is well known and any attempt to instigate her would lead to great destruction. Let us look at the events leading to the great devastation of Uttarakhand by flooding of Uttar Kashi. The government has tried to build up dams to overcome the power shortage in the country. This has been opposed by locals and some prominent politicians like Uma Bharti and B. C. Khanduri of the BJP since it would lead to the submergence of the temple of Dhari Devi. As a result efforts to construct dams have been delayed indefinitely. Previously, in 1882, an attempt to shift the Dhari Devi shrine was immediately followed by havoc in Kedar Valley. There is some strange connection between these guardian goddess and the Kedarnath jyotirliñga. The Joint Temples These are not just any other Shakti temples, they are among the 108 Shakti Pitha mentioned in the Devi Bhagavat. Dhari Devi is a temple on the banks of the Alakananda River in the Garhwal Region of Uttarakhand state, India. It houses the upper half of a deity of goddess Kali specifically called "Dhari Devī" that, according to local lore, changes in appearance during the day from a girl, to a woman, and then to an old lady. Perched atop a 20 metre high rock, the temple of Dhari Devi is situated on the banks of river Alakananda. One has to travel a distance of 19km from Srinagar (Pauri Garhwal) on Srinagar-Badrinath highway upto Kaliya Saur, then down trek another half a kilometer towards Alakananda river. According to a local legened, the temple was once washed off by floods, while floating the idol struck against a rock, the villagers heard the cries of the idol. On reaching the site they heard a divine voice instructing them to install the idol as it was, on the spot it was found. Since then the fierce looking idol remains where it was, known as Dhari Devi, under the open sky, and thousands of devotees on the way to Badrinath pay their obeisance to it. The temple of Dhari Devi in Srinagar hosts only the upper part of the deity of Godess Dhari, the remaining lower part is believed to be in Kalimath in Rudraprayag district. It is believed that the idol of Dhari Devi shall not be put under a roof. For the same reason, the deities in Dhari Devi Temple are put under open sky. Taking photographs of the Dhari Devi deities are strictly prohibited. The village near the temple is name after godess Dhari and known as Dhari Village. A hanging bridge over Alaknanda river connects the Dhari Devi temple to Dhari Village. Now, the lower half of the idol of Kali is located in Kalimath Temple. These joint temples are aligned exactly at NE-SW direction (see adjoining image) symbolizing Kali as sleeping with her feet in NE direction and head in the SE direction. This causes the energy to flow in the NE direction, which in jyotiṣa, is the direction of Jupiter (Ishana Shiva), the parameṣṭhi guru. The upper part of the devi with the head symbolizes the calming of Kali by Shiva, the Guru. The lower part of Kali is not in the form of an idol and instead, is worshipped as the Sri Yantra. In this manner we learn that the Sri Yantra, as established by Adi Shankara at Kalimath, is the yoni of Shakti from which all creation proceeds. The Kedarnath jyotirlinga is exactly North from Kalimath (see adjoining image) symbolising the husband-wife or Shiva-Shakti relationship. In this, Kedarnath being to the north (Mercury direction for ahimsa) is constantly calming the devi who is in the south (Mars direction, anger, agitated and at war). On June 15th, 2013, the deity of Dhari Devi was removed from her ancient temple to be shifted to another location to facilitate the construction of the same dam (a 330 megawatt hydro electric project which now stands in ruins), which locals were opposing ever since the conception of the project with the belief that the moving of the Dhari Devī would somehow agitate Kali. They were right in their belief as any movement would lead to a change in the angle of the Dhari Devi and Kalimath alignment, besides altering the distance. There are energies we human beings do not understand as yet and it is best to let these spiritual shrines where these energies are contain, be maintained. With the shifting of Dhari Devi, the agitated Kali has been woken up, and she seeks the demon Raktabija (seed of blood). As per mythology, Raktabija took various bodies and she continued to destroy each one. Primarily this indicates unimaginable bloodshed and death. Exactly on the next day a massive cloudburst and flash flood started in Uttarakhand. Today, when official death figures are at 1,000 (identified people/bodies), the unofficial figure is way beyond 5,000 deaths and more are still following as the rains are returning. Restore the idol of Dhari Devi (Kali torso) to its original shrine and start the prayers that calm her down. Shri Yantra sadhana has to be maintained at Kalimath and Bael leaf must be offered to Kedarnath. If this is done, then Kali will calm down and the agitation of nature will stop. If this is not done, then the agitation of Kali shall spread throughout India and this will prove to be one of the worst years in the history of modern India. ...(More..)

Patricia Narayan  started her career 31 years ago as an entrepreneur, selling eateries from a mobile cart on the Marina beach amidst all odds battling a failed marriage, coping with her husband, a multiple addict, and taking care of two kids. Today, she has overcome the hurdles and owns a chain of restaurants. She married against the will of her parents. Unfortunately, the marriage failed but her parents never forgave her and she was on her own along with 2 children. " I knew I should either succumb to the burden or fight; I decided to fight my lonely battle." she said. She started selling pickles, squashes and jams she made at home. Eventually she started her own cart on Marine Drive, Mumbai. On the first she just sold one cup of coffee, making 50 paise the first day. But she never lost hope and earned as high as 25,000 rs a day. One day the Slum Clearance Board gave her an offer to run the canteen at their office with a proper kitchen. The chairman met her during her morning walk. It was a huge success. Thereafter, she never looked back. She suffered the second shock of her life in 2004 when she lost her daughter and son-in-law in a road accident. The ambulance refused to carry their dead bodies. Finally, somebody carried all the dead bodies in the boot of a car. She couldn't bear the scene and broke down. That is when she decided to keep an ambulance on that very spot to help people whether the victims are alive or dead. It is in memory of her daughter. Today Patricia along with her son runs the chain of restaurant 'Sandeepha' in her daughter's memory and around 200 people work under her. ...(More..)

About Rolihlahla Mandela was born into the Madiba clan in Mvezo, Transkei, on July 18, 1918, to Nonqaphi Nosekeni and Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela Biography Rolihlahla Mandela was born into the Madiba clan in Mvezo, Transkei, on July 18, 1918, to Nonqaphi Nosekeni and Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela, principal counsellor to the Acting King of the Thembu people, Jongintaba Dalindyebo. After his father’s death in 1927, the young Rolihlahla became a ward of Jongintaba at the Great Place in Mqhekezweni. Hearing the elder’s stories of his ancestor’s valour during the wars of resistance, he dreamed also of making his own contribution to the freedom struggle of his people. He attended primary school in Qunu where his teacher Miss Mdingane gave him the name Nelson, in accordance with the custom to give all school children “Christian” names. He completed his Junior Certificate at Clarkebury Boarding Institute and went on to Healdtown, a Wesleyan secondary school of some repute, where he matriculated. Nelson Mandela began his studies for a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University College of Fort Hare but did not complete the degree there as he was expelled for joining in a student protest. He completed his BA through the University of South Africa and went back to Fort Hare for his graduation in 1943. On his return to the Great Place at Mkhekezweni the King was furious and said if he didn’t return to Fort Hare he would arrange wives for him and his cousin Justice. They ran away to Johannesburg instead arriving there in 1941. There he worked as a mine security officer and after meeting Walter Sisulu, an estate agent, who introduced him to Lazar Sidelsky who arranged that he do his articles through the firm of attorneys Witkin Eidelman and Sidelsky. Meanwhile he began studying for an LLB at the University of the Witwatersrand. By his own admission he was a poor student and left the university in 1948 without graduating. He only started studying again through the University of London and also did not complete that degree. In 1989, while in the last months of his imprisonment, he obtained an LLB through the University of South Africa. He graduated in absentia at a ceremony in Cape Town. Nelson Mandela, while increasingly politically involved from 1942, only joined the African National Congress in 1944 when he helped formed the ANC Youth League. In 1944 he married Walter Sisulu’s cousin Evelyn Mase, a nurse. They had two sons Madiba Thembekile ‘Thembi’ and Makgatho and two daughters both called Makaziwe, the first of whom died in infancy. They effectively separated in 1955 and divorced in 1958. Nelson Mandela rose through the ranks of the ANCYL and through its work the ANC adopted in 1949 a more radical mass-based policy, the Programme of Action. In 1952 he was chosen at the National Volunteer-in-Chief of the Defiance Campaign with Maulvi Cachalia as his Deputy. This campaign of civil disobedience against six unjust laws was a joint programme between the ANC and the South African Indian Congress. He and 19 others were charged under the Suppression of Communism Act for their part in the campaign and sentenced to nine months hard labour suspended for two years. A two-year diploma in law on top of his BA allowed Nelson Mandela to practice law and in August 1952 he and Oliver Tambo established South Africa’s first black law firm, Mandela and Tambo. At the end of 1952 had the first in a series of banning orders. As a restricted person he was only able to secretly watch as the Freedom Charter was adopted at Kliptown on 26 June 1955. Nelson Mandela was arrested in a countrywide police swoop of 156 activists on 5 December 1955, which led to the 1956 Treason Trial. Men and women of all races found themselves in the dock in the marathon trial that only ended when the last 30 accused, including Mr. Mandela were acquitted on 29 March 1961. On 21 March 1960 police killed 69 unarmed people in a protest at Sharpeville against the pass laws. This led to the country’s first state of emergency on 31 March and the banning of the ANC and the Pan Africanist Congress on 8 April. Nelson Mandela and his colleagues in the Treason Trial were among the thousands detained during the state of emergency. During the trial on 14 June 1958 Nelson Mandela married a social worker Winnie Madikizela. They had two daughters Zenani and Zindziswa. The couple divorced in 1996. Days before the end of the Treason Trial Nelson Mandela travelled to Pietermaritzburg to speak at the All-in Africa Conference, which resolved he should write to Prime Minister Verwoerd requesting a non-racial national convention, and to warn that should he not agree there would be a national strike against South Africa becoming a republic. As soon as he and his colleagues were acquitted in the Treason Trial Nelson Mandela went underground and began planning a national strike for 29, 30 and 31 March. In the face of a massive mobilization of state security the strike was called off early. In June 1961 he was asked to lead the armed struggle and helped to establish Umkhonto weSizwe (Spear of the Nation). On 11 January 1962 using the adopted name David Motsamayi, Nelson Mandela left South Africa secretly. He travelled around Africa and visited England to gain support for the armed struggle. He received military training in Morocco and Ethiopia and returned to South Africa in July 1962. He was arrested in a police roadblock outside Howick on 5 August while returning from KwaZulu-Natal where he briefed ANC President Chief Albert Luthuli about his trip. He was charged with leaving the country illegally and inciting workers to strike. He was convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment which he began serving in Pretoria Local Prison, In May 1963 he was transferred to Robben Island and returned to Pretoria in mid-June. Within a month police raided a secret hide-out in Rivonia used by ANC and Communist Party activists and several of his comrades were arrested. In October 1963 Nelson Mandela joined nine others on trial for sabotage in what became known and the Rivonia Trial. Facing the death penalty his words to the court at the end of his famous ‘Speech from the Dock’ on 20 April 1964 became immortalized: “I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.” On 11 June 1964 Nelson Mandela and seven other accused Walter Sisulu, Ahmed Kathrada, Govan Mbeki, Raymond Mhlaba, Denis Goldberg, Elias Motsoaledi and Andrew Mlangeni were convicted and the next day were sentenced to life imprisonment. Denis Goldberg was sent to Pretoria Prison because he was white while the others went to Robben Island. Nelson Mandela’s mother died in 1968 and his eldest son Thembi in 1969. He was not allowed to attend their funerals. On 31 March 1982 Nelson Mandela was transferred to Pollsmoor Prison in Cape Town with Sisulu, Mhlaba and Mlangeni. Kathrada joined them in October. When he returned to the prison in November 1985 from prostate surgery Nelson Mandela was held alone. He began writing to the Minister of Justice Kobie Coetsee who had visited him in hospital, to initiate talks about an ultimate meeting between the apartheid government and the ANC. In 1988 he was treated for Tuberculosis and was transferred on 7 December 1988 to a house at Victor Verster Prison near Paarl. He was released from its gates on Sunday 11 February 1990, nine days after the unbanning of the ANC and the PAC and nearly four months after the release of the remaining Rivonia comrades. Throughout his imprisonment he had rejected at least three conditional offers of release. Nelson Mandela immersed himself into official talks to end white minority rule and in 1991 was elected ANC President to replace his ailing friend Oliver Tambo. In 1993 he and President FW de Klerk jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize and on 27 April 1994 he voted for the first time in his life and on 10 May 1994 he was inaugurated South Africa’s first democratically elected President. On his 80th birthday in 1998 he married Graça Machel. True to his promise Nelson Mandela stepped down in 1999 after one term as President. He continued to work with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund he set up in 1995 and established the Nelson Mandela Foundation and The Mandela-Rhodes Foundation. In April 2007 his grandson Mandla Mandela became head of the Mvezo Traditional Council at a ceremony at the Mvezo Great Place. Nelson Mandela never wavered in his devotion to democracy, equality and learning. Despite terrible provocation, he never answered racism with racism. Dhanush Raanjhanaa movie review

Producer : Krishika Lulla Director : Anand L. Rai Music  :A. R. Rahman Cast: Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor   Story : ‘Raanjhanaa’ is a term used in Uttar Pradesh to refer to a person who is deeply and madly in love with someone. In this context, ‘Raanjhanaa’ is a story of Kundan (Dhanush), a Hindu Brahmin boy, living in the holy city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. In his childhood, Kundan falls in love with Zoya (Sonam Kapoor), a Muslim girl, and goes on to chase her till he turns 16. A series of events lead to Zoya being sent to Allahabad for further studies by her parents and soon Zoya forgets Kundan. She then returns to Varanasi after eight long years where Kundan is still eagerly and patiently waiting for the love of his life. But little does our Raanjhanaa know that Zoya is now a big girl and has fallen in love with her co-student and youth politician (Abhay Deol). The focus then shifts to the question of whether Kundan can finally win Zoya’s love? This one question is what the rest of the movie is all about!   Positive  : Raanjhanaa moves smoothly ahead from a cute childhood love story to an intense and mature one. Director Anand has very creatively directed the scenes that simultaneously amuse and charm the viewers. Talking about performances, I would like to start with Naman Jain, the child artist who plays the young Dhanush. Last seen in the Zoya Akthar segment of ‘Bombay Talkies’, Naman delivers a performance that clears marks him as a future superstar. Sonam Kapoor comes up with an intense portrayal of a character who is a mix of beauty and power and she gives an applause- worthy performance. Then there is Abhay Deol who doesn’t have too many scenes but still manages to grab the viewers’ interest everytime he walks into a scene. Swara Bhaskar and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, the other characters from Varanasi, have given splendid performances and the quirky dialogue delivery by Zeeshan will definitely have you in splits. Now if you are still wondering why Dhanush is still not being mentioned, that’s because I was saving the best for the last! Dhanush may have become popular across India for his singing talent in ‘Kolaveri Di’, but his acting in ‘Raanjhanaa’ is nothing less than a wonderful revelation for viewers. He is the surprise package and his sheer talent in playing a lovable and intense loverboy has the viewers longing for more. Whether it is the comic or the intense scenes, Dhanush leaves no room for error and proves that his earlier National Award for acting was well deserved.   Negative   : Though the first half doesn’t let the viewers take their eyes of the screen, the second half turns out to be a little inappropriate. The second half suffers mainly because of the political sequences which are not that important and this stretches the movie to an extent that the audiences get bored. The romance vanishes off the screens and takes the audiences interest levels down. Despite his talent, Abhay Deol is clearly wasted in the film where he clearly does not have much to do. Technical Aspects : After a long gap, music maestro A R Rahman has come up with an interesting album that expresses romance in a many unique ways. Some of the tracks like ‘Tum Tak’ and ‘Raanjhanaa’ are extremely lovable and fit smoothly in the narrative. The cinematography is first-rate as the camera easily captures the minute religious and cultural aspects of Varanasi. Also, the editing and background score is above average. However, lot of credit should go to the dialogues which are the film’s biggest strengths and take the film to a different level. The typical north Indian dialogues make the scenes look even more realistic and authentic and this where Director Anand scores.   Verdict :Overall, ‘Raanjhanaa’ is a story of love and treachery with some surprisingly awesome performances by the entire cast. Despite a slow second half the film’s other strengths make the movie a must watch!   Rating – 3.75/5 ...(More..)

(BGM) Cast: Allari Naresh, Shaam, Vaibhav, Raju Sundaram, Neelam Upadhyaya, Sneha Ullal   Story : The film starts off with Posani Krishna Murali and Sunil. Posani is a film director and Sunil is the hero. This is a story that Sunil narrates to Posani.Bava (Allari Naresh), Ajay (Kick Shyam), Shiva (Vaibhav) and Purush (Raju Sundaram) are thick friends. They grow up together and share everything in life. While Bava is an easy going person, Ajay and Shiva are seen as more mature and responsible people. Purush is a comical flirt. Ajay is all set to marry his sweetheart Shruthi (Sheena), so the four friends decide to celebrate the last few days of Ajay’s bachelorhood in Goa.While travelling to the beach paradise, Bava comes across Geetha (Neelam) and instantly falls for her. He starts trying to woo her but is not too successful. Once they reach Goa, the four friends decid to get drunk and have fun. They wake up with a heavy Hangover and all hell breaks loose when they discover that a member is missing from their gang.As the wedding date approaches, they desperately search for the missing guy. Will they succeed in their efforts? That forms the rest of the story.   Plus Points : The film has really good 3D effects. There are a number of scenes where viewers will experience high quality 3D sequences and the entire team must be appreciated for having the courage and the conviction to attempt this film. Allari Naresh is really good in the lead role. He has tried his best to make the comedy work. Kick Shyam and Vaibhav are ok. Raju Sundaram brings a few laughs with his antics and punches. Sudeep is brilliant in a cameo appearance. Sneha Ullal has come up with a very glamorous performance in the film. Neelam Upadhyay is neat and effective. Brahmanamdam is ok as Magnet Mama. M.S.Narayana entertains with spoofs on Mahesh Babu, Pawan Kalyan and Siddharth. Master Bharath has done a decent job. Songs have been shot well. ‘Ding Dong Bell’ and ‘Swathy Muthyapu Jallulalo’ have excellent visuals. Minus Points : If you have seen ‘The Hangover’, you will know what will happen in most of the scenes. The film keeps losing pace at times, especially during the forest episodes and the climax sequences. Some scenes should have been edited out to improve the overall experience. Some of the comedy sequences appear a little outdated and cliched. Technical Aspects : The film’s cinematographer and stereographer need to be appreciated for doing a very fine job with the visuals. Editing could have been a lot better. Sunny’s background score is decent. Dialogues are ok in places but they are not too impressive. Director Anil Sunkara has done a good job with the visuals and he has taken care of the technical aspects in a proficient manner. But the screenplay and scene development could have been better. Production values are rich. Final Word: Watch it for impressive 3D effects, Allari Naresh, Raju Sundaram and Sneha Ullal    Rating- 2.75/5 ...(More..)
